Natealicio.us 3.0

Welcome to Natealicio.us 3.0.

I’m not sure why maintaining a blog is such an arduous task. For some reason I find it very difficult to find the time and energy to generate (useful) content that might be of interest to the (not-so) general public. Both attempts at running a blog on this domain in the past have met with miserable failures; the first due to insufficiently developed homebrew blog software, the second to a lack of desire to blog on the crappy theme I had running.

I cannot guarantee any level of activity here in the future, but I have taken several steps to at least provide some self encouragement to get back on the horse and give it the old (post) college try:

  1. I’m using wordpress and Blogo to maintain the site. Blogo is cool. Wordpress is… OK.
  2. I’ve designed my own theme. I wanted the opportunity to play with some new tech that I can’t use on client work, so this worked out well. The new theme was done completely in HTML5 and I have absolutely no intention of supporting IE at all. Ever.
  3. I added linked list functionality to the site. Most of the content I want to post is in small chunks of links and not conducive to the general format of a traditional blog. The linked list items will display nicely on the side and main content will only stay on the front page.
  4. I’m using Disqus for comments, but I may even drop that. I honestly don’t care for blog comments. They pollute. I probably will move to twitter for feedback.

I don’t think much I have to say is profound or new, so we’ll see how often I end up blogging real posts. The content will generally revolve around ruby and programming topics in general, so if that doesn’t pique your interest, this site probably won’t be of much interest to you.  Sorry.

Finally, I do not consider this theme complete at all. It’s just good enough to get things running. I probably won’t end up doing too much more to it in the near future, but I’d like to clean it up a bit more and provide easier access to archives of regular posts and linked list items. I also am using this site as a testbed, so if things break or don’t work at all, hit me up at @wondersquirrel and I’ll try to take a look.

Ciao.

PS. I really kinda hate wordpress right now. Poor API, hard to find and hard to read docs, and… php.
